To me, a true leader is an impeccable listener. She is someone who is intuitively able to pick up on subtle interpersonal cues and this is a quality that makes her an excellent communicator. She makes sure all voices have been heard and that she has done thorough research – considering all angles before making a decision to move forward and implement an idea.
A leader is also curious, so she asks a lot of questions. She knows she is not perfect and she is eager to learn. She is true to her own style of management and reaching the goals she sets out to accomplish. If the team thinks change is needed, she will listen to feedback and take suggestions into consideration moving forward. She also knows she cannot please everyone, but she holds firm to what she believes will be the right direction for the team.
As a college career counselor and coach, I am in-tune with the way millennial students communicate (face-to-face and, of course, digitally - Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and texting). After working with millennials for the past eight years and being an older millennial myself, I know how to reach the students so they are responsive, and I understand the types of jobs they are interested in: flexible jobs that allow them to mesh their professional and personal lives; work that is humanitarian in nature; a job that allows them to move around and not just sit at a desk.
I'd love to have the opportunity to coach YOU if you are ever interested in taking the leap. I think you will like what you discover.
